The Future Freaks Me Out
I Am the Movie(2003)
I discovered this song back when I was kid using my grandmother's family computer while she babysat me and my younger brother. The song was attached to a video that had a stick figure fighting a wall. I loved the melody of the song. I'll occasionally revisit this song because of the sheer nostalgia of being 8 years old again, but I believe that now that I'm an adult, I truly understand what the lyrics mean.. It became more than a melody later on in life and actually pretty much described the anxiety of making the right choices as an adult.. Funny how that works.
Fenix TX
All My Fault
RiverFenix (1997)
I often relisten to this song because of the energy and it became a song that I could recite lyric for lyric. I first discovered this track on the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 soundtrack on PS2. It was a stand out track and it feels like a song that perfectly encapsulates an era that I missed because of my age. This was the pop-rock era where I feel a lot of media made being a teen and all the drama that came with something to idolize. I was in elementary school at the time so being high school felt like a dream. This song captures the melodramatic essence of being a teen in the early 2000s.
Groove Theory
Time Flies
Groove Theory (1995)
I actually discovered this song recently. I tend to spend my nights winding down by listening to music and this song popped up in a curated mix. I'm not sure if I had heard it sometime before, but the hook of the song reminds me of my early childhood. The music was incredible back then. I want to take the time to listen to this record as I am already familiar with Groove Theory's hit song Tell Me, but not much else from this album. (Perhaps it'll be included in a future post.)

The Way She Dances
Fly or Die (2004)
Possibly one of my favorite albums that I will revisit every so often. It reminds me of my formative years--when I was a pre-teen. It's a song that I often sing out loud (and rather poorly) because of its catchy melody and humorous verses (yes, that one line about 'mermaids'.)
Lewis OfMan
Siesta Freestyle (feat. Alicia Te Quiero)
Dancy Party EP (2021)
Some time ago, a few years back, I had taken up learning Spanish. I went to the extreme by creating an entirely new email and only interacting with content in Spanish which led me to finding a bunch of really talented Spanish-speaking artists. Siesta Freestyle by Lewis OfMan and Alicia te quiero became a stand out track for me because it had such a fun and playful sound. It envokes the feeling of romantic love. Scenes play in my head of going out on the town, accompanying my date on a shopping trip, getting coffee, or just doing nothing at all, but there's a carefree essence to the how the overall composition of the song is constructed. It's just so fun!

Strange Things
VISION (2002)
I could honestly post much of their discography as they are artists that have captivated me for the last year or so. I think I could never get tired of their infectious choruses and just outright pleasing instrumental accompanyment. This song in particular I can recall vividly moments where listening to this song made me so happy to be alive. It puts a huge smile on my face because it's a song that sounds so familiar despite me only discovering them fairly recently in my life. And it's in a language that I feel beautifully supports this soulful R&B sound. I am a huge fan of the japanese spoken language, but also how the language works so well within the mechanics of songwriting. It's absolutely poetic and there are (again) so many songs that I could choose from out of their discography, (but perhaps, that's for another time..)
thank you for everything.
